U17-18/4 Match Report - 21 July 2018

After finishing 4th we made the finals but were drawn against the No.1 ranked team.  They started off well but as the first half went on we started to hold them out and get more than equal possession.

We took them on and found out that we were matching them.  Great defence by our goalie Pat and  backs  Alex C, Anton, Jordan and Luke and Joey kept the ball away and cleared it away from our box. Then one slip up in defence and we had a soft goal against us. We kept fighting and went in at halftime 1-0  down but  had shown enough that we could get back into the game.

We came out in the second half and fought hard and started to dominate. Chris and Ryan switched back to our defence and performed  tirelessly to set up a platform to build our comeback on. Liam was magnificent in our midfield  with many dominant penetrating runs with the ball and superbly supported by Ryan O, Lachlan and Nathan. This led to us getting the ball camped around their penalty box and a high succession of corners. Jordan pounced on a loose ball from a corner and smashed home our equalising goal. From here it was game on for a tense finish and we never let up. Brendan made his comeback complete by getting a run on the field.

We created a lot of chances and three near misses including hitting the post,  missing by inches and a ball cleared off the line.  Just when it seemed  like once again we were being the better team but heading for a draw. Then Jordan got bowled over in the box and we got a penalty! Lachlan stepped up bravely for the pressure kick and booted it in to seal a fantastic semi-final victory.

One of our best ever wins and team performances with everyone playing to their best. Well done boys! Now lets do it all over again next week!
