U15/2 Match Report - 7 July 2018

The measure of a season is not necessarily whether you earn a berth in the finals tournament. For me it’s really has the team improved.

Taking on second place today and winning is a credit to how much we’ve improved over the season and a credit to Coach Goran. The whole team played their best game of the season - We looked more comfortable with Uzair back in-between the sticks - His glove work inspires the team moving forward.

Freya re-found form looking decisive and in control. Dylan didn’t have bed-head and was awake to everything the driving forwards threw at him.  Even Shresth who for some reason was playing in his grandmas bloomers, middled everything he kicked today. Who cares - at least he was warm.

SuperMin is a one man defence - Starring in his own action movie. Best supporting defender today is apprentice Baxter who is picking up the trade with aplomb, and Harrison Ford….I mean Harrison Chapman…showing some great Solo solos - really loving his commitment to the cause.

Our confidence just continues to grow with Kodai pushing much further upfield today with some razor runs slicing the defence. He looked surprised when he found himself in promising positions - but he shouldn’t be…his hard work in paying off. I predict he’ll be a midfield magician in seasons to come. We all hooked up really well…Will slotting the ball into advanced positions for the tireless Kaito to chase down. On another day…he would have had two or three goals. He is an exciting talent. Ayush’s runs had more changes of direction, and twists and turns  than a labour party tax policy and he scored with a determined run into the box from the tireless Tank Tarun’s inspired throw in. We were level with 10 minutes to go.

This is where our improvement really showed. In the past we would have panicked and we’ve lost or drawn many a game from here. But today we did not choke.  We defended with heart, attacked with confidence, and didn’t settle for a draw. At times Lachlan was like a racehorse running in quicksand, but his taped legs kept together just long enough to canter home for the most amazing shot-cross to bring football home to Harold West.  If he can keep himself strapped together in once piece for the final sprint home this year,  we could just be first past the post come the end of year…but really whatever happens it doesn’t matter - Today’s performance shows that  this year…we’re already winners.
