U13/1 Match Report - 17 June 2018

After a washout and a forfeit awarded to us over the long weekend – it was good to be back on the park.

All Saints are a very good team, last time out was a 2 all draw, and this time we were missing a defender and midfielder in Roni and Dominique.

We went down a goal early, but were well in the game. All Saints had clearly marked out our faster players and matched them up well, we would have to move the ball quicker to score. And their attack was based around balls over our defence for their fast striker to run onto, but Bianca, Ellen Grace and Alanah were well aware of the tactic and dealing with it well.

Midfield was a battle, with the Saints defence often bypassing our midfield with long clearances to their forwards. Fiona her usual combative self in the middle, Alanah Cameron out wide linking up with Bella and Zoe on the wings and Caitlin at striker. Lara had a player of the match effort proving she is a box to box player with a firm tackle, good vision and an eye for goal.

We got level through a short corner and cross in which Bella latched onto before half time.

Both teams had numerous chances, but with Aadya and Tippi in goals for a half each, we have the luxury of 2 strong keepers, improving weekly from the club run specialist keeper sessions on Monday nights.

A fair resulting in the end – either team could have snatched a cheeky win, but we were a little out enthused for the ball, and a draw was fair. We will meet them again in the finals series undoubtedly, as All Saints remain third to our second on the table.
