Early morning suites us. It’s amazing what you can do with four or five ancient pieces of velcro and a bit of ingenuity. The nets were up so tight you could have played them like a guitar…little did I know…it would end up being the violin.
We made some beautiful music today with Super Min putting in another virtuoso performance, conducting proceedings from the back. The defence was a tight rhythm section with Baxter matching the HC go-to-guy for pace and determination and Freya just seemingly teleporting like magic to the right spot at the right time. Kodai was the opposite he was always there. He rode his Leviathan attacker like a rodeo clown. But he had the last laugh. Andrew had little to do, but performed his duties with increasing confidence. He’s a keeper as keeper. Will has benefitted from moving further upfield and is playing with a vision that shows great promise for the the back end of the year. We were rightly out in front with maestros Harrison and Dylan putting in the hard yards unselfishly turning pages to the tune being played by Kaito and Tarun in front of them, with Ayush holding it all together. Wonderful Teamwork. But in the time it takes to back-heel the ball off your line to the opposition attacker - Dylan turned our “Stairway to Heaven" into a “Highway to Hell". No stop signs. No speed limit….we rushed headlong into another catastrophic climactic crescendo. Straight away - Lachlan had his second solo that ended in a second goal Two from two….relief... but as always with this team... there was a coda. With only a few bars left…a free kick just outside our box... Silence…then…Fortissimo - ball in the net…..honours even. Hear that sound? No it’s not a guitar string pluck. (Though it may rhyme)… Is it the sad strings of a solo violin? Or the ripping of decadal velcro? Or maybe it's the quiet whisper of a grown man weeping? In the end it was the final whistle that was music to my ears. Next week I’m sure we’ll orchestrate a win.
