WOW! WHAT A DAY FOR WOMEN'S FOOTBALL AT OUR CLUB!
The Women’s Gala Day, now in its second year, is an end of season celebration of all things female football at Roselea FC played in a four-a-side competition format for age groups from 7 years to well over 60 years young.
The Gala Day showcased the growing numbers of girls and women in football from both the Roselea FC club and teams from other neighbouring clubs, with the West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook club prominent in the visiting teams. The event was billed as ‘Bring a friend’ and so we had girls and Mum’s join in who had never kicked a ball before now all wanting to join a summer soccer team and looking forward to next winter season.
The event this year grew bigger and better both on and off the field with over 160 players.
A favorite with all the girls was a visit by Future Matilda and Roselea Football Ambassador (RFA) – Cortnee Vine who loves to chat to the girls, stop for selfies and sign anything that was presented to her. Our RFA program is proudly funded by a Parramatta Council Community Grant for 'Increased Participation of Females in Football'.
The off-field activities included the Western Sydney Wanderers Dribbling Zone and the giant Football Dartboard run by Football FNSW, a jumping castle and Tot’s Field for the Littlies.
To keep the hungry tummies satisfied, in the events centre was Free Aldi MiniRoos Fruit, Classic Treats ice cream van, Tropical Sno cones, quality Coffee Bean Van and a Louse Cooke’s BBQ on offer for players and supporters.
Another big hit on the day was the Launch of our new Club Apparel – Club Branded Training Jackets and Club Hoodies along with our Roselea FC Caps’ (These will also be on sale at the Roselea PS Fete and Presentation Day.)
A massive thank you to the organising team who have been working towards the day for several months.
The ‘Dream Team’:
Mel McMillan in Event Central, had the off-field activities humming, bringing her events management and marketing skills to the fore before taking the field herself,
Jeff Saul as Competition Coordinator who had the players, referee’s and
games schedule running like a swiss watch.
and Roger Fernando, who quietly toils away in the background with mind blowing designing of banners and social media posts and from behind the camera lens, who along with Anthony Bello and Ann Odong, FFA’s 2023 Womens World Cup Coordinator, captured the day for all to share. Roger continues to blow me away bringing such a slick level of presentation to our events and the club that is being noticed around the association.
It is a testament to what can be achieved by people in our community who love their kids playing football and apply their professional skills to the benefit of the club.
Thank you to all the volunteers, the Mum’s and Dad’s, filling the volunteer roster to help provide the best possible experience for all our girls.
It is a delight to get an email from a Dad saying “Mia obviously had fun, but so did I, and Daniel also had a good time with his friends having a go at all the other activities. It was a proper family day out”
Our hope is to expand the gala day across the entire club, maybe make it a Gala Weekend.
“There is such a positive atmosphere around the club, it definitely makes the late nights worth it.”
Looking forward to seeing you all again next year.
